Connie wants a Bento Box!

I am so excited about my quilt square for MAY!!!  For my square I am choosing the Bento Box quilt square pattern.

I bought a wonderful layer cake a few months back that I am using for this quilt (Norwegian Woods Too by Michael Miller fabrics)....I think it will make a fun quilt for my bedroom!

I will send you all the fabric you will need.  You should receive 3 pieces of fabric (Fabric 1 -10" square, Fabric 2 -  5" x 10", and a  2.5" strip of Kona White)

From the Kona White you will cut:
2 - 6.5" pieces (2.5" x 6.5")
4 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
4 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

From Fabric 1 (10" square) you will cut:
FOUR 2.5" strips; then from those cut ---
2 - 6.5" pieces (2.5" x 6.5")
2 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
2 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

From Fabric 2 (5"x10" piece) you will cut:
TWO 2.5" strips; from those cut ---
2 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
2 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

Once you have everything cut out then lay the pieces out just like this picture:

The best way to work with this is to think of it "in quarters or 1/4 blocks." You will start with the upper left corner section (green and white in my picture).

To make the block on the left, sew the white 2.5" square to the fabric 2 2.5" square,
press seams open.

 Next, you will sew the 4.5" strip to the left side. Then sew the 4.5" white strip to the top side; then sew the 6.5" strip to the left side.  (I forgot the take pictures of each step with the white strips)

Once you have this 1/4 block finished then you work on the next quarter block in the same manner starting with the 2.5" squares -- this section uses fabric 1 and Kona white.

Now you have the top half of the square done:

Sew the bottom quarters together and it should look like this:

To put it all together, just sew the top two quarters together, then the bottom 2 quarters together;
press seams open.

Now it is ready to combine the top section to the bottom section; press seams open.  Your finished square should look like this;

Hopefully this all makes sense.....can't wait to see your finished squares!

Start looking for some fun material in the mail!!!
