I have had a couple of people ask me about the Block of the Month that I am working on because the link I originally posted is a little complicate (it took me several tries from the website to find it).....so I am going to post the links that will take you to each tutorial so far this year:

1st Block of the Month

2nd Block of the Month Instructions

3rd Block of the Month

4th Block of the Month

5th Block of the Month

I hope this will help you find the instruction easier than before.

Jennifer's inverted star

Another one done:)   This was easy enough and I loved doing it but I think when I trimmed the 2.5 squares up I should have been a little more careful. You seasoned quilters probably know this but I should have started with the same side and turned the same direction with each one after that. I'm not sure if that makes sense but I think that would have made a difference in making the seams match up better. Jennifer if you trust me with another one I will try to do a better job:):) Jillian is going to love this quilt!!

Bento Box Squares

I am on my fourth go round with this virtual quilting bee....unfortunately I have yet to complete any of my quilts that I sent out to our blog quilters (and I REALLY WANT TO COMPLETE THEM!)  I decided this time around I would complete the extra quilt squares needed to finish my quilt project before getting back any squares from you all.  I did it!!!  So now when you send me your completed squares I will have my extras ready to go with them and can put the quilt together immediately!  (I have mailed out fabric to those of you who live away and I have fabric ready to deliver to Llewellyn, Nikki, MariaMae, Jennifer R, and Vee -- should have it in a day or two).

I completed 14 squares to go along with your squares!

Now it is your turn to share some projects that you have been working on!!!

Connie

Sew Friday!

I love to read quilting blogs!  I love to see what others are working on and to get some inspiration.  I came across a wonderful sew along here that I wanted to work on so I went to my stash to see what I had available to work with and got started!!!

I had bought some Tea Room charm packs by Michael Miller ....I had 3 of them....so I decided to work with what I had on hand and order a few fat quarters to go along with them.  I LOVE the way the squares have turned out!   Since I didn't have the fat quarters needed immediately I pulled other Michael Miller fabrics that I had in my stash and added them to the squares to get the lengths I needed....I think for the most part they worked...thinking I might change one of the squares later.  But here is what I have so far:

Can't wait til June to get the next square pattern!

Connie wants a Bento Box!

I am so excited about my quilt square for MAY!!!  For my square I am choosing the Bento Box quilt square pattern.

I bought a wonderful layer cake a few months back that I am using for this quilt (Norwegian Woods Too by Michael Miller fabrics)....I think it will make a fun quilt for my bedroom!

I will send you all the fabric you will need.  You should receive 3 pieces of fabric (Fabric 1 -10" square, Fabric 2 -  5" x 10", and a  2.5" strip of Kona White)

From the Kona White you will cut:
2 - 6.5" pieces (2.5" x 6.5")
4 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
4 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

From Fabric 1 (10" square) you will cut:
FOUR 2.5" strips; then from those cut ---
2 - 6.5" pieces (2.5" x 6.5")
2 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
2 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

From Fabric 2 (5"x10" piece) you will cut:
TWO 2.5" strips; from those cut ---
2 - 4.5" pieces (2.5"x4.5")
2 - 2.5" pieces (2.5" x 2.5")

Once you have everything cut out then lay the pieces out just like this picture:

The best way to work with this is to think of it "in quarters or 1/4 blocks." You will start with the upper left corner section (green and white in my picture).

To make the block on the left, sew the white 2.5" square to the fabric 2 2.5" square,
press seams open.

Next, you will sew the 4.5" strip to the left side. Then sew the 4.5" white strip to the top side; then sew the 6.5" strip to the left side.  (I forgot the take pictures of each step with the white strips)

Once you have this 1/4 block finished then you work on the next quarter block in the same manner starting with the 2.5" squares -- this section uses fabric 1 and Kona white.

Now you have the top half of the square done:

Sew the bottom quarters together and it should look like this:

To put it all together, just sew the top two quarters together, then the bottom 2 quarters together;
press seams open.

Now it is ready to combine the top section to the bottom section; press seams open.  Your finished square should look like this;

Hopefully this all makes sense.....can't wait to see your finished squares!

Start looking for some fun material in the mail!!!
