Kristin's really cool square!
Kristin, this was so fun to make! I loved it. I hope you like the colors and patterns I chose.
Here are some other projects that I have finished lately:
Maria Mae's finished Butterfly quilt for her mom. All of your lovely Butterflies! She and I go together and finished the sashing and border. I quilted it and bound it.
We both love her mom!
Halloween Fun! A Spiderweb pillow and a Halloween quilt.
I think I may have a fabric problem...

September Square
Vanitta's September Square
This pattern comes from the "Perfect Piecing Foundation Sheets" made by June Tailor available from Hobby Lobby many other retail and online outlets!. In the mail you will receive fabric, and the pattern to complete one 12 1/2 inch square. This square consists of 4 - six inch blocks.
The finished quilt will look somewhat like this:
Basic Instructions:
Step 1. The block design has been copied onto Perfect Piecing Foundation using a copier. You will receive 4 sheets for the 4 quadrants of the block.
Step 2. You will receive 4 pieces of fabric that is big enough to use in all four quadrants of the block. The fabric is numbered to match up with the pattern piece. YOU WILL NOT precut your quilt piece prior to sewing onto foundation paper.. You will only trim them AFTER attaching each section. BUT REMEMBER never trim on the line. Always allow at least a 1/4 " seam allowance on all sides.
Step 3. Position and pin fabric, right side up, for section 1 to wrong (unmarked) side of Perfect Piecing Foundation. Turn Perfect Piecing right side up to view and make sure fabric is placed correctly.(Make sure your fabric piece has 1/4 " seam allowance beyond the pattern line.)
Step 4. Position and pin fabric for section 2 onto section 1, right sides together making sure both fabrics overlap the stitching line of the pattern (the common line between sections 1 and 2). Check positioning of fabric prior to stitching by folding to right side out on stitch line, making sure fabric covers section with at least 1/4" seam allowance ON ALL SIDES.
Step 5. Turn Paper Piecing Foundation right side up and stitch sections 1 and 2 together on stitching line.
Step 6. Trim seam allowance to a scant 1/4". See bottom of this post for trimming tips. Turn section 2 in the same manner above. Turn paper piecing Foundation right side up and stitch sections 2 and 3 together. Trim seam allowance and press.
Step 7. Position and pin section 3 to section 2 in the same manner above. Don't forget to check that section 3 fabric will properly cover the section after it is sewn BY folding back at seam line. Turn Paper Piecing Foundation right side up and stitch sections 2 and 3 together. Trim seam allowance and press. See bottom of this post for trimming tips.
Step 8. Continue piecing each fabric section in order following the same method until block is complete and all four quadrants are sewn together.
NOTE: *Perfect Piecing Foundation sheets build blocks on the wrong side of the sheet.
*Begin stitching several stitches before marked stitching line begins and continue past marked line or outside edge of block. If stitching will intersect, gently tear stitching away from foundation past the next stitching line.
*Use a short stitch length, approximately 20 stitches per inch, to neatly tear away Perfect Piecing Foundation from finished block.
TRIMMING TIPS:
Once again, ladies, I am posting this for my mama. It is her block. You will receive the pattern and fabric in the mail in a few days. She says she hopes you still want to be her friend after working on this. lol. Also, she mentioned, if it is too tricky and makes you want to cry to send it back and she'll do it for ya. Thanks so much for your efforts!

Fabric 1 placed over section 1 plus 1/4 " seam allowance (Pattern is facedown.) |
Fabric 2 shown (right sides together) being positioned to be sewn on seam between section 1 and 2. Fabric 2 has to be pulled down far enough so that when folded over at the seam it covers section 2. |
This picture reflects fabric 2 was pinned on seam and folded over to check that it would cover section 2. |
Be conservative and watchful as you're positioning your fabric. The fabric provided will be enough plus a little extra if you're careful. Please see the picture of fabric that I had left over after my square was complete. With this in mind, you may want to complete Step 5 (above) on all four quadrants before moving on to step 6. Section 1 on your pattern piece is the largest section and that fabric is used on 4 sections of EACH quadrant.
Step 6. Trim seam allowance to a scant 1/4". See bottom of this post for trimming tips. Turn section 2 in the same manner above. Turn paper piecing Foundation right side up and stitch sections 2 and 3 together. Trim seam allowance and press.
You must sew sections IN NUMBER ORDER. One through Eight.
PLEASE SEND ALL LEFT OVER FABRIC BACK. THAT WAY I MAY BE ABLE TO SQUEEZE A COUPLE MORE BLOCKS OUT OF IT.

TRIMMING TIPS:
In this photo, you can see fabric is on the bottom touching the mat, the pattern is on top. The pattern is folded back. The ruler is placed so that you may trim the fabric 1/4 " past the seam. |
This is the 2nd cut on trimming section 1. |
This shows the trim after the 2nd cut. |
