Mardie's Christmas Block!

I hope you like this, Lara. The colors seem brighter in the blog. (Congratulations on the baby!)

A word of hopeful help for the rest. Look carefully at the measurements in the instructions. I used "fat blocks" for this and had to piece some together to get pieces large enough to cut from.

Sewing at Mardie's on July 19th!

So far the vote is to meet on Tuesday, the 19th of July, 7 pm, my house. I have a big kitchen table and we can use the dining room too and bring in another if needed.

Bring your sewing machine, supplies, fabrics, latest square(s), cutting mats and rotary cutters... and a snack to share. (Marnita, we will find a machine for you.) We will get all caught up and feel so much better about ourselves!

We will miss Julie and Courtney... Julie needs a prize for finishing both the May flower AND the Christmas trees!

If you need directions to my house please contact me on Facebook and I will message you my address and directions.

This will be so much fun!

What else will we need? Bring it for sure!

I'm so excited, I may just go up stairs and make some Christmas trees!

Love,
Mardie

Confusion

My apologies for the confusion over the June Christmas Quilt. Just to clear things up-YES we are doing this block! I've decided to stick with it because I really would love a Christmas quilt. It is larger then the agreed 12X12. I'm sorry for that. I thought the pattern was cute, and didn't want to redo an entire pattern. I think it is a fun technique and Julie has successfully made hers.
I'm planning on bringing some Christmas fabric to Mardie's get together if anyone needs extra or just wants to blend in the color scheme. (obviously that means these aren't done by the end of June-don't forget we need to discuss the calender and due dates at Mardies!) I'm hoping to get Julie's soon so I can bring it to Mardie's as well.

Happy quilting!

My flower and tree blocks are DONE!!!

I guess I have great timing. Sorry that my May block is late but our lives have been really crazy!! They are closing the Boise Temple where my husband works for renevations and we found out a couple of weeks ago that he will be laid off during the process......so things have been a litle crazy.

Lara......please do the tree blocks.....they are so much fun to do and a totally new concept.

I wish I could come to your sewing night in July. Sounds fun....but a little bit of a comute for me.

I am sending along pictures of my blocks. Hope they are what you want.

Thanks for letting be a part of your group.

Julie

Policy Meeting

I have some concerns that need resolution and discussion.

1. Lara, I heard from Kristin that you are thinking of changing your square for the month. I would like to know for sure before I start cutting my fabric.

2. I also heard that Jennifer R. has received only 4 of her 11 squares for APRIL!

3. Jennifer S., Connie & Terri... have you received all of your promised squares? I know that for MAY, Kristin has one in her possession with one more shown on the website.

4. I think we need to be in or out! All of us have complicated lives. Life is crazy! Things happen. I think though that we need to communicate when we are late. I think we need to post when we are done. I think we need to acknowledge receipt of squares that are sent.

5. With 4 squares done for April and only 2 squares done for May, and Lara rethinking her square for June, I propose that we take a month's break and catch up. It is not crucial that we do 12 squares in 12 months. I think it is more important to have fun and post our progress and catch up. I am frankly jealous of the "12squared" group and how they are talking back and forth and sharing other projects and apologizing for being late and sharing frustrations, etc. Our post seems really silent...

6. May I suggest a get together at my house? Bring your machine and your latest square(s) and of course some food and we will talk and laugh and sew and get to know each other better. Send me a vote for Tuesday, July 12th or Tuesday, the 19th @ 7pm.

I will now step off my soap box...
Love to all,
Mardie

Flower for Kristin

Here is mine. I hope the black is okay. I thought it fit in with a "modern" flower. Hope you enjoy!

"Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time passing.
Where have all the flowers gone,
Long time ago..."

(Most of you are too old to know this reference...)

I don't want to insult anyone, but
where are all of Kristin's "May" flowers?

Are we sure that we want to do 2 squares a month during the summer?

August is my month and I would like to do something a little different than we have done. I will be sending everyone a Control Fabric. The chicken fabric is the control fabric. The piece is about 8 inches by the width of the fabric. I have also taken a picture of the fabrics that I have chosen to go with my control fabric to make my block. Here is what I would like you to do.

** I want the blocks to be a 12 inch block ( your finished block should measure 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches with your seam allowance)

** The type of block you would like to do is up to you.

** Please keep your colors of fabric similar to the colors in the control fabric.

I am excited to see what everyone comes up with. Pleses let me know if you have any other questions. Have Fun!! I will be sending the fabric out this week. I would send it to Jennifer S. but she will be in Idaho soon so she told me to send it to Lara. (Thanks.) Then everyone can get their piece from her. Thanks for working with the lone Idaho quitler!!

Color Scheme for June

you should be able to click here
and see the Christmas color Schemes. Go down to Holiday Decor. That is the color scheme I would like to use for my Christmas quilt. I'm not worried about perfectly matching, but that is a nice pallette. I like the greys blues, off shades of pinks and grees. Again HOLIDAY DECOR-not the top one when you open the page. Let me know if you can't find it.
Choose any color you want for the trees (they don't all need to be green) and for the background. Any scraps you can give me I'll use for the squares and borders to tie it all together.
I think it will be beautiful, so thank you!
Oh ya, prints are fine too. Nothing too cartoony. But old fashioned St. Nicholas, other trees, berries or ornaments, stars, geometics, paisley or swirls, etc are all A-okay.

Again, you are to make one set of 3 trees. 2 small and one large.
Directions can be found here.

P.S. Were we doing 2 in the summer to avoid a December quilt block? If so-go ahead and post, Ms. December!
